Danka is a fierce Polish feminist and LGBTQ+ activist from Warsaw, Poland. The podcast conversation starts with the history of Polish abortion rights restrictions and leads us to the newly-enacted restrictions which sparked an enormous women and LGBTQ+ uprising and huge protests during 2020 and throughout 2021. Kim and Kay are birth workers who started The Queer Parenting Partnership, an organization that provides birth and parenting support services in the UK. Combining their knowledge of midwifery and childcare, they have created a complete antenatal and postnatal education program for all types of parents, which also recognizes the need for additional services for LGBTQ+ families and other families perceived to be minorities.

Mandisa Thomas is the founder and president of a secular nonprofit organization called Black Nonbelievers. The organization focuses on support for black atheists and skeptics, and the representation of African Americans in the secular space. The organization also advocates for racial justice, social awareness, LGBTQ+ equality, and minority equity.

The first part of the interview touches on the importance of the Black Nonbelievers organization, on the history of racism and what role religion plays in it, and on the deep-rootedness of religion in black community. Mandisa reminds us of freethinkers throughout black history and the stigma the word “atheist” still carries in the community.

Corinne is the founder and president of Eastern PA Trans Equity Project, an organization that provides resources, education, outreach, legal assistance, financial aid and community support for transgender people in Eastern Pennsylvania, USA.
